Equipping
God's Saints (Followers of Christ) through the Prophecies of the
End Times …
The
490-Year Prophecy:
Daniel
9:27 says:
“He
will confirm a covenant with many for one seven [year period]. In the
middle of the seven [years] he will put an end to sacrifice and
offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination
that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out
on him.”
In
order to understand what this means, we have to know several things
about this verse. These are all things that will happen during this
last 7-year period.
Question
#1: Who is 'he' that will confirm the covenant?
'He'
does 3 things:
a)
He confirms the covenant
b)
He causes the sacrifice and oblation to stop
c) He
places the Abomination of Desolation
Daniel
11:21-22
The Antichrist confirms the covenant
Daniel
11:31
The Antichrist causes the sacrifice and the oblation to cease
Daniel
11:31
The Antichrist places the abomination that makes desolate
Question
1: Who is “He”?
Answer: The
Antichrist
Question
2: What is the covenant?
Answer:
Genesis 15:18 states:
“In
the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy
seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great
river, the river Euphrates:”
This
is a description of the Promised Land. That's the Abrahamic Covenant
that the nation of Israel should have a homeland in the land of
Israel.
Question
3: What is the confirmation of the covenant that starts the 7 year
period?
Answer: The
Bible teaches us when the Middle East Peace Agreement is signed, the
Antichrist and the international community will confirm Israel's
right to exist in the Holy Land. Presently, Israel's enemies deny
that she has a right to a homeland there. Most of the Arab countries
have yet to recognize Israel's right to exist. When the confirmation
of the covenant takes place, the Final 7 years to Armageddon and the
Second Coming of Jesus Christ will begin. That's the reason we call
this a prophecy with a date on it.
Question
4: What sacrifices will he stop?
Answer: The
Middle East Peace Agreement will place the Temple Mount under a
sharing arrangement between Muslim and Jews. This is told to us in
Revelation 11:1-2. John was told to measure the Temple [the rebuilt
Temple; the Jewish Temple]; don't measure the outer court, that will
be trodden down by the Gentiles. It takes a picture of the Temple
Mount and the sharing arrangement. Israel will be allowed to rebuild
her Temple.
It says there ~ John was told to measure the Temple. He
can't measure the Temple if there is none. Later on we're going to
see that the Antichrist will stand in the Temple. You can't stand in
the Temple if there is none. A Temple is going to be built on the
Temple Mount.
When
the Temple is completed, animal sacrifices will be offered just like
they were in the Old Testament. These are the sacrifices that the
Antichrist will stop. It will probably be at the urging of the animal
rights activists.
Question
5: What is the “Abomination of Desolation”?
Answer: The
Abomination of Desolation shows up many times in scripture. One place
is when Jesus was teaching about prophecy in Matthew 24:15:
“When
ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken by
Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him
understand:)”
The
Abomination of Desolation stands in the Holy Place. The Holy Place is
in the Temple, or at least on the Temple Mount. The Abomination of
Desolation is when the Antichrist will stand in the Temple
proclaiming to be God. The Apostle Paul described this in more detail
in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4:
“Let
no man deceive you by any means: for that day [the day of the Second
Coming] shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and
that man of sin [the Antichrist] be revealed, the son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or
that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God;
showing himself that he is God.”
This
is describing an event that will happen 3 ½ years before the Battle
of Armageddon. How will the Antichrist say it when he stands in the
Temple Mount claiming to be God? I don't know, but when it happens,
we will recognize it and when he does it, that is called the
“Abomination of Desolation” because God said it 37 times in the
Old Testament:
“I will put my Name on the
Temple Mount.”
That's
the reason the Antichrist, who by that time will probably be
possessed by Satan, is going to stand there and say that he's the
ultimate authority.
Now
let's take a closer look to events during the Final 7 years.
