Equipping
God's Saints (Followers of Christ) through the Prophecies of the
End Times …
The
prophecy we are going to study here is one of the most critical
prophecies in the entire Bible. Without the right understanding about
this prophecy, it's impossible to really grasp the entire scope of
the prophecies that God has given to us.
This
prophecy is entitled Holy Roman Empire Reborn. It actually came to
pass on November 3, 2009. This was one of the five most important
prophetic fulfillments in the last 2000 years, ever since the
crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One
reason this prophecy is so absolutely important is because the
Antichrist and the False Prophet will both come out of this reborn
Holy Roman Empire. If we acquire an understanding of the Holy Roman
Empire, we can know what's really happening in our world today.
The
prophecy about the Holy Roman Empire Reborn is given to us two
different times in the scripture. One of the times it's depicted as a
woman riding on the back of a beast. It's interesting that the emblem
outside the capitol of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium,
outside the parliament building, is a bull with a woman, Europa,
riding on the back. In the scripture given to us to describe this
very entity (this scripture was given to us 2500 years ago) it uses
the same type of symbolism, the woman on the back of the beast. It's
nothing short of remarkable.
The
prophecy is found in Daniel 2:31-45. In order for us to really
appreciate this prophecy, we need to take a moment to give the
setting.
This
was the time of Israel's captivity to the Babylonians. This was
happening because Israel had sinned and God's judgment was, “I am
going to drive you into exile for 70 years.”
Among
the first to go into exile was Daniel and the three Hebrew children.
Very quickly Daniel was found among the spiritual advisors to
Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon. We need to understand that
Babylon ruled the entire world of it's day. Immediately, Daniel was
thrust into a very important position.
King
Nebuchadnezzar went to bed one evening and had a dream. Upon
awakening the next morning, he remembered that he had dreamed a
dream. It really bothered him. He felt like it was an important
dream, but he couldn't remember what he dreamt.
King
Nebuchadnezzar was used to getting his way and he thought since he's
been paying those astrologers, those wise men, it's time for them to
earn their money. He sent for the chief among the wise men and said,
“I had a dream last evening.”
The
wise man said, “No problem at all. You just tell us the dream, Oh
King, and we'll tell you the interpretation thereof.”
Nebuchadnezzar
said, “That's where the problem is. I don't remember what I dreamt.
I want you to tell me the dream and what it means.”
Now
the chief wise man was very alarmed. He said, “Oh King, no one has
ever required this of his spiritual advisors before.
Nebuchadnezzar
said, “Just what I thought. You're all a bunch of fakes. You're all
a bunch of charlatans. I'm not feeding you another meal.” He issued
the order on the spot to kill all the wise men in his realm.
They
came to Daniel's home, knocked on his door and said, “We're here to
put you to death.”
Daniel
said, “Wait a minute. I don't mind dying. I'm ready to die. But
please tell me what all of this is about.”
They
quickly related the story and Daniel said, “Stop your extermination
program because I can't tell the King his dream, but I serve a God
who reveals secrets of men's hearts, and He can. I'm going to seek
Him and He's going to tell me the dream. I will then tell it to King
Nebuchadnezzar.”
Everyone
breathed a sigh of relief hoping that Daniel could, in fact, do this.
Daniel sent for his three friends, Mechach, Shadrach and Abednego,
the three Hebrew children. They fasted and prayed. That evening,
Daniel went to bed and he dreamt a dream. When he awakened the next
morning, he knew God had allowed him to dream Nebuchadnezzar's dream.
Furthermore, God had given him the understanding of what it meant.
Daniel
is quickly ushered into the presence of King Nebuchadnezzar to tell
him the dream and the interpretation.
I
imagine there was a lot of aprehension in the palace that day.
Everyone was hoping that this young Jewish man that had come from
Jerusalem into captivity could really give the dream and the
interpretation.
Daniel
began to relate the dream. He said, “What you really saw, King
Nebuchadnezzar, you saw an image. The image had a head of gold, arms
and breast of silver, belly and thighs of brass, legs of iron, and
feet of iron mingled with clay. As you watched, a stone came rolling
down out of the mountain, smote the image on the feet and the whole
image came crumbling down. It disintegrated, became like the chaff on
the summer threshing floor and was carried away by the wind.”
King
Nebuchadnezzar was astounded because Daniel had jogged his memory. As
soon as Daniel began to tell him the dream, he began to remember the
dream. He said, “Daniel, this is incredible. The God you serve
truly is able to reveal the secrets of men's hearts.
Nebuchadnezzar,
the King of the entire world, realizes there really is a true God and
there really are people who are in touch with that true God.
This
set the stage for many of the things that would happen later on in
Daniel's life in the Kingdom of Babylon.
