Part 2 of 6 – Holy Roman Empire Reborn

Equipping God's Saints (Followers of Christ) through the Prophecies of the End Times …

As Daniel explained the dream to Nebuchadnezzar, he began to fill in the details. He told him these different segments, the head of gold, the arms and breasts of silver, the belly and thighs of bronze, the legs of iron and the feet of iron mingled with clay all symbolize empires. They're not just any empires. They are empires starting with now until the coming of God, to establish His Kingdom upon the earth. These are empires that will rule the entire world.

Babylonian Empire (604 – 539 BC)

Media-Persian Empire (539 – 331 BC)

Grecian Empire (331 – 197 BC)

Roman Empire (197 BC – 284 AD)

Holy Roman Empire (800 AD – Second Coming)

There will be many empires between now and then, but only five will obtain world dominion. That's the reason there are five segments, sections of this image.

Daniel 2:39 actually gives us that clue:

“And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.”

To be in this prophecy the kingdoms have to bear rule over all the earth. So, Daniel goes ahead to give the explanation. He said, “You, Nebuchadnezzar, and your Kingdom of Babylon, you are the head of gold and the whole world looks to you for leadership, but that won't go on forever. After you there's going to arise another kingdom.”

We know how this came to pass. It was in the days of Nebuchadnezzar's grandson, Belshazzar. Belshazzar was having a big feast. Now, in the days of Nebuchadnezzar, he had conquered Jerusalem and he had carried away the golden and silver vessels that had been dedicated to the service of God in the Temple. In respect to Daniel and his God, Nebuchadnezzar had never done anything with these vessels. He had simply put them in storage and left them there.

Nebuchadnezzar did not pass his values on to his grandson. Belshazzar is partying one evening and when he partied as the King of the whole world, he had big, amazing parties.

By this time, he'd been through this so much, the booze and drugs were there, but the party was sort of dragging. Belshazzar thought he needed to take this party to another level.

He remembered those golden and silver vessels that had never been touched. They were off limits. He decided he's going to push this party to the edge. He gives the order, “Go bring those vessels. We're going to use those to party with.” So they did.

Undoubtedly, they got the most beautiful golden goblet for Belshazzar. They filled it to the brim with the finest wine. The Bible says, “When he tipped the glass to his lips, there came a scratching sound over to his right.”

When he turned to see, he saw the forefinger of a man's hand inscribing in the plaster in the wall a message. Of course, that brought this party to a screeching halt. Immediately, the people saw it and they began to head for the exits.

The Bible says, “His knees began to smite together in fear.” He ordered a halt to the music. He said, “Bring someone that can tell me what this means.” No one could tell them. It was written in a different language that Belshazzar could read.

They began to put out the call for anyone who could tell them what it meant. Someone stepped forward and said, “Oh, King, I remember in the day of your grandfather, Nebuchadnezzar, he had a dream that no one could reveal, but there was this man in the realm named Daniel who was of the Hebrews. He told your grandfather the dream and the interpretation of the dream. I think he could probably help us.” Immediately, they sent for Daniel.

When Daniel came before Belshazzar, he was able to give him the meaning. He said, “Here's what the handwriting means. You are weighed in the balance and you are found wanting. This night your kingdom will be divided between the Medes and the Persians.” That's exactly what happened.

It happened in 539 BC. That very night the Medes and the Persians were in the process of invading. They overthrew the Kingdom of Babylon that night. From 539 BC until 331 BC the Medes and the Persians ruled the entire world.

The Prophecy goes on to say there's another segment. We have

1. Head of gold = Babylonian Empire (604 – 539 BC)
2. Arms and breast of silver = Media-Persian Empire (539 – 331 BC)
   Next we will look at the belly and thighs of brass.
