Part 4 of 6 – The Second Coming

Equipping God's Saints (Followers of Christ) through the Prophecies of the End Times …

We have learned about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. We have also learned that the Book of Revelation is the revealing of Jesus Christ. We are going to continue through the different accounts of the Second Coming in the Book of Revelation.

There is an account of two harvests. In Matthew 13:37-43, Jesus gave a parable of the wheat and the tares. He taught that there was this certain man who owned a field. He and his servants sowed seed in the field. When the seed came up, they noticed that there were tares mingled with the seed. The servants came to the master and said, “What happened here? Did not we get good seed? Did you buy this seed from a reputable place? Why do we have tares?”

Immediately, the owner said, “An enemy hath done this.” Someone who is my enemy came out in my field to ruin my harvest and sowed tares among the wheat.”

In Matthew 13:37-39, Jesus begins to explain the parable:
“He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world (age); and the reapers are the angels.”

  • Sower = Jesus ~ The sower that sows the seed, which is the word of God, is Jesus, the Son of Man.
  • Field = World ~ The field is the world where He's sowing His Word.
  • Good Seed = Saved ~ The good seed that comes up as wheat are those who will be saved.
  • Tares = Unsaved ~ The tares are those who reject the gospel and will be lost. They are the children of the wicked one.
  • Enemy = Devil ~ The enemy that sowed the tares is the devil.
  • Harvest = End of the Age ~ The harvest is the end of this age at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
  • Reapers = Angels ~ The reapers are the angels.

Now, let's see what happens to the wheat and the tares. Matthew 13:40-42 says:
“As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world (age);
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

So, the servants asked their master, “Shall we go out there and shall we pluck up the tares out of the wheat?”

He said, “No, no. You'll uproot the wheat while you're at it. Just wait until the harvest. We'll gather the wheat, put it in the barn, and we'll gather the tares and burn them.

Jesus said that likewise, the tares will be gathered together. The wicked ones will be put into judgment at the end of this age. That's the end of people who reject the gospel.

On the other hand, however, Matthew 13:43 tells us:
“Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

When Jesus comes back, we who have believed the gospel ~ He has made us righteous ~ we're going to shine forth and be a participant in the kingdom of our Father. Who has ears to hear, let him hear.

The other account of the two harvests is so interesting. The first harvest is found in Revelation 14:14-16:
“And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man [Jesus], having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.”

We are dealing with two harvests here. The harvest of the earth is the wheat. This is the rapture when the saints are caught up to meet the Lord in the air.

The other harvest begins in Revelation 14:17-18:
“And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.”

This is the other harvest we are speaking of and the vine of the earth refers to the tares in the two harvest prophecy back in Matthew 13

It goes on to tell us in Revelation 14:19-20:
“And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. [Remember this phrase ~ the winepress of the wrath of God.]
And the winepress was trodden without the city [Jerusalem], and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.”

The rapture will take place. At the same time, the armies of the earth, are being ushered into the winepress [speaking of the Battle of Armageddon]. This is when the wrath of God ~ the Bible refers to the winepress of the wrath of God ~ It will be trodden without the city.

Just outside the city of Jerusalem is a valley called the Kidron Valley. It is also known as the Valley of Slaughter. That's where the Battle of Armageddon will culminate. It will begin in the plain of Megiddo in the northern part of Israel. The Israeli army will be driven back, before the world government armies, back down the Jordan Valley, and then in for their last stand at the City of Jerusalem. It's about 160 miles.

In the Revelation 14:20 passage, it says:
“...the blood will flow by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.”

  • 1,600 furlongs = 160 miles

If you measure from Megiddo in the north over to the Jordan Valley, down the Jordan Valley into Jerusalem, that's right at 160 miles.

This is the prophecy of the Battle of Armageddon and how Jesus Christ will come back to this earth at the Battle of Armageddon
