Part 2 of 4: The 7 Trumpets

Equipping God's Saints (Followers of Christ) through the Prophecies of the End Times …

In the previous lesson, we disscussed the Third Trumpet. Now let's take a look at the First and Second Trumpets, which took place before the Third Trumpet.

The Second Trumpet is found in Revelation 8:8-9:
“And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
And a third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.”

For this Trumpet we wonder what could have happened prior to Chernobyl that would have destroyed a third part of the ships. As we think about what this could possibly be, World War II is brought to mind.

World War II 1939-1945 is the world's greatest disaster the world has ever known. 52 million people died there. With this thought, we can wonder how many ships participated in World War II and how many were sunk?

Statistics show that there were 105,127 ships that participated in World War II. 36,387 of these ships were sunk. You do the math. One Third of the ships in World War II were destroyed!

The rest of the prophecy in Revelation 8:8 says,
“And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea...”

We've all seen pictures of nuclear explosions where they look like a huge mountain on fire.

Why should it be incredible that the first nuclear bomb dropped on the human race, and why should we think it's incredible that World War II, the greatest war the world's ever known with 52 million dead, should all be in the Book of Revelation? In the Second Trumpet prophecy, we are seeing the nuclear explosion at Hiroshima and Nagasaki and also one third of the ships were destroyed.

This convinces us that the Second Trumpet is World War II.

With that being said, we ask “What is World War I, then?” Revelation 8:7 says:
“The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.”

If the Second Trumpet is World War II, could the First Trumpet be World War I? Up until the 20th century, in 6,000 years of recorded history, we have never had a war with one million fatalities. World War I comes along and they call it the Great War with 8.2 million dead. It was totally unprecedented.

What could it mean with hail and fire mingled with blood? Think about the new implements of warfare with the bombs and the huge guns.

It also says all green grass is burnt up. In school you may remember learning about the Scorched Earth Policy. Most of the battle of World War I occurred between France and Germany and there was an area in there where the policy was, “Don't leave anything. Burn everything up. That way if you lose the territory, you leave no resources for the enemy to live off. Don't leave any crops. Don't leave any green thing.”

World War I is when biological weapons were first being used. It was such a horrific ordeal that our men and the enemy went through.

With this we can safely say that the First Trumpet was probably World War I.

In summary of the Trumpets, we have:
  1. The First Trumpet = World War I
with 8.2 million dead. In 6,000 years of recorded history, we have never had a war with one million fatalities.
  2. The Second Trumpet = World War II
with 52 million dead, one third of ships destroyed; a great mountain burning with fire.
  3. The Third Trumpet = Chernobyl Nuclear Accident

A theory that is embraced is that all the Seven Trumpets will occur during the final 7 years of Tribulation, however, that is just a theory, and now you can see that it could be questioned. Through study, I am convenced that that is not an accurate theory.

Coming up are Trumpets Four, Five, Six and Seven. You don't want to miss it.
