Equipping
God's Saints (Followers of Christ) through the prophecies of the
End Times ...
The
commonly accepted explanation of the prophecy of Daniel 7:1-3, and
what most people have taught over the years is that:
- The Lion with Eagle's Wings = Babylon
- The Bear = Media-Persia
- The Leopard = Greece
- The 10-Horned Kingdom = Rome
I,
myself, accepted these teachings as did many, many others, HOWEVER
.....
Moving
onto Daniel 8, we see there is a ram fighting with a he goat. Reading
down to Daniel 8:20-21, we are told:
“The
ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media-Persia
and the rough goat is the king of Greece.”
This
shows us that the Bear and Leopard cannot be Media-Persia and Greece.
Also,
don't forget, all these nations must be on the earth at the time of
the Second Coming. True that Greece and Rome do exist today, however
the kingdom of Babylon and the kingdom of Media-Persia do not exist
today.
We
will look at each of these beasts one by one:
Daniel
7:4 states:
“The
first was like a lion, and had eagles wings: I beheld till the wings
thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth and made
stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.”
When
God picked symbols to represent nations, He didn't pick them
indiscriminently. He picked symbols that would have meaning at the
time of the prophetic fulfillment.
The
nation's whose recognized animal symbol as the Lion is Great Britain.
If you look in Webster's Third International Dictionary, it defines
Lion:
“A
symbol of a country...Great Britain”
With further research you will find:
The
Lion is a national
animal of
England. Lion was the nickname of England's medieval warrior rulers
with a reputation for bravery, such as Richard
I of England,
known as Richard the Lionheart. Lions
are frequently depicted in English
heraldry,
either as a device on shields themselves, or as supporters.
They also appear in sculpture, and sites of national importance, such
as Trafalgar
Square.
The lion is used as a symbol of English sporting teams, such as
the England
national football team.
God
is telling us that Great Britain will be one of the nations that will
exist on the earth at the time of His Second Coming.
Regarding
the Eagle Wings on the Lion, there is a major nation today whose
recognized symbol is the Eagle. It is very common as we see it on
governmental documents all over the place. It is even on the back of
our dollar bill. You guessed it! The United States of America.
Where
did the United States of America come from? We came out of Great
Britain. That is our Mother Country. What is so exciting about this
is it was written 2,300 years before America was even born, but God
knows the end from the beginning and He wants us to understand these
things right now!
In
Daniel 7:4, it states:
“...I
beheld till the wings were plucked and it was lifted up from the
earth”
Daniel
saw the breaking away of the United States of America from Great
Britain.
Next
is the Bear. There is a major nation today whose recognized symbol is
the Bear. This one is common knowledge to most people. It is
sufficient to have a look at the titles of articles published in
world press ('Russian Bear Comes Back', 'Awakening of Russian Bear',
and ‘Russian Bear Plays Muscles') to realize the meaning of this
symbol in politics and culture.
The
symbol of the Bear is Russia.
Another
point of interest is Time Magazine dated October 27, 1980 when there
was a lot of tension in the Persian Gulf / Middle East, where there
is still a lot of tension today. The picture is of the Eagle and the
Bear and the caption says “Will It Explode?”
I
bring this up to point out that these are not just man's
interpretation of what nations some man has put with the symbols
listed in Daniel's prophecy. This is actual evidence showing what is
accepted as the nations and their symbols.
Coming
up, we will discuss the Leopard with 4 Heads and the 10-Horned Beast.
